By Lynne Stewart A DUNDEE student is hoping to be the next Big Brother housemate after blowing £500 on a sought-after golden ticket. Philip Colaco (21) is desperate to appear on the hit Channel 4 show after failing to impress Big Brother makers in two previous auditions. Philip, a second-year history student at Dundee University, is one of 42 hopefuls who have managed to get their hands on the golden tickets hidden in KitKat wrappers. However, the golden ticket does not guarantee entry into the house and he will fly to London today to a secret location where the programme makers will select at random one person to go into the house during the live show on Friday. There were 100 golden tickets distributed in KitKat bars around the UK. Fans of the programme have had since May 18 to find one of the Willy Wonka-style special chocolate bars and had until Friday to claim the ticket. After passing the programme’s thorough background checks, Philip and other ticket winners will travel to the Big Brother studio to take part in a special show where the new housemate will be selected. Philip, a former pupil at St Peter & Paul Primary and Dundee High School, is relishing the chance of becoming the latest housemate. “I bought it for less than £500 on eBay. There are about 40 of us going to London tomorrow to an unknown destination,” he said. “I have tried before to get on the show. I got through to the second round of this year’s auditions and I didn’t get past the first round last year. “When I heard about the golden tickets this year I went out and bought 144 KitKats but didn’t find a golden ticket and the chances of me finding one in a wrapper was pretty remote. “So I decided when I saw a ticket for sale on eBay to buy it,” he added. The self-confessed Big Brother addict compared himself to model Nikki, who is one of the housemates. Philip added, “I am a fun-loving person and I see myself getting on really well with Nikki and Pete. I have been watching the programme and they are my favourites. “I am just like Nikki—she speaks without thinking and I can be like that too. And Pete seems like a great guy. “I am outgoing and bubbly and I am sure I would fit in well with the group.” Philip who lives with his parents Francis and Linda and sister Francesca, said he’d like to shake up the house. “I think from this year’s housemates I don’t think Scots were represented very well. Shahbaz was the only Scot and was a total nutcase,” he said. “I think I can do a good job for Scotland in the house.” |
