Digging up the past

Experts are uncovering the lives of Perthshire residents of centuries ago at a fascinating project near Pitlochry. There is evidence of stone walls 1.5 metres thick at Black Spout Wood, where heritage officer Sarah Winslow (left) and assistant archaeologist Lindsay Farquharson were investigating yesterday. The high-status homestead could date from the late iron age, some 2000 years ago.
