SCOTLAND’S TOP automotive old-timers will be trundling to Angus next month for a prestigious first in the history of one of the area’s big summer events. The 32nd Scottish Transport Extravaganza takes place in the grounds of, Glamis Castle on July 8 and 9 and among a massive entry of exhibits covering seven decades will be 111 invited competitors vying for the nation’s Champion of Champions title. Organised by the Scottish Vintage Vehicle Federation, the competition brings together qualifiers from a host of events across the country and moves around the country’s premier vintage vehicle shows. There is a good local representation in the Champion of Champions line-up and event administrator Lesley Munro is hopeful it will be an extra draw in what is shaping up to be one of the biggest entries organisers have seen. “There are a number of new car clubs coming to Glamis this year and with an increase in other entries we should have over 1000 vehicles,” said Lesley. The club influx includes the Goldfish Society Touring Club from Ireland, as well as home groups such as the Tay 4x4 and Scottish Morris Marina clubs. Another first for the Glamis crowd will be the main ring antics of international stuntman Mark Stannage, who is to perform a flaming high-dive, exploding coffin escape and nailbiting high fall. |
