Knife attacker may have struck twice

POLICE FEAR the man responsible for a Perth knife attack may have struck again.

A male was taken to hospital following a vicious assault and robbery in the early hours of Friday.

It has now come to light, however, that a second man was assaulted near the same city centre car park later that same day.

The two men were set upon in Scott Street, which is often used as a short cut by pedestrians travelling between some of Perth’s main streets.

Similar descriptions of the assailants were issued in both instances. In both the victims were robbed.

Police are investigating the two incidents separately but yesterday refused to rule out they may be linked.

In the later incident, which occurred at 9.20 pm, a man was “slightly injured” following a struggle with a dark-skinned, possibly Asian, male, aged 25-30.

It is understood he defended himself but was robbed of his wallet.

The attacker is said to have dark hair and was wearing a dark blue pullover and dark blue jeans.

The robbery followed the more serious incident when a 22-year-old man was taken to hospital after being stabbed.

He was robbed of cash, a credit card and a phone after his assailant stuck a knife into his leg.

He was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary and was treated for a cut to his upper left leg before being discharged.

The incident occurred close to the Scott Street car park at around 12.30.

Police officers were again able to give a detailed description of the assailant, who was said to be 5 foot 8, with dark hair and possibly of Middle Eastern appearance.

He spoke with a foreign accent and wore a navy hooded top and jeans.

Officers have been making door-to-door inquiries and viewing CCTV footage.

They believe the attacker may have made off in a taxi and are particularly keen to speak to any taxi drivers who may have picked up a man fitting the description of the suspect.
