Romantic sounds abound at game fair

PERTH’S REPUTATION as a romantic location for honeymooners has been enhanced after a blissfully happy couple from Radio 4 show The Archers paid a visit.

The BBC recorded a special show at the Game Conservancy Scottish Fair at Scone Palace yesterday.

Regular listeners last night heard how Oliver Sterling, played by Michael Cochrane, and Caroline Pemberton (Sara Coward) enjoyed a trip to Scotland.

The show was played to the nation at 7pm, just hours after the recording session.

The happy couple had enjoyed an intimate ceremony at their Grey Gables Hotel.

Shula Hebden Lloyd was Caroline’s choice of witness while Oliver—ignorant of the fact his new wife once had an affair with him—plumped for Brian Aldridge.

Ahead of the joyous visit to Perth, Caroline endured a turbulent time.

After 20 years of serial disasters, including her affair with Brian, she married landowner Guy Pemberton.

However, his heart attack six months later left her a widow.

Oliver divorced wife Jane and met Caroline when joint master of a local hunt.

Meanwhile the game fair crowd was undoubtedly affected by torrential rain yesterday.

There were only 4500 people there in Friday’s drizzle, compared to around 15,000 in Saturday’s sunshine.
