COMPETITORS FLEXED their muscles yesterday in Perth as two national events took place. The Concert Hall was the setting for Scotland’s Strongest Man (under 105kgs) and Scottish Strongwoman (first timers and novices) championships. The event was promoted by Alastair “Big Al” Christie, no stranger to winning strongman competitions. He holds the Scottish, British and European championships in drug-free powerlifting along with the same titles for his age and weight. The referee for both championships was Jackie Young of Ayrshire, who holds a host of titles and is regarded as one of the world’s strongest women. She has competed in various exotic locations around the globe and came second in the prestigious Miss Universe title. |
