THERE IS likely to be almost a full-house at McDiarmid Park, Perth, this weekend as thousands of Jehovah’s Witnesses descend on the home of St Johnstone FC.

The three-day convention, called Deliverance At Hand! starts on Friday and organisers are confident it will yet again prove popular.

Each day’s programme will be based on a Bible passage and the convention promises to stress compelling scriptural reasons for taking decisive action when pondering the direction of life.

Perth-based organiser, Reigh Sneddon, yesterday told The Courier, “The past three weeks has seen thousands of households in Scotland offered attractive invitations about the convention, as the Witnesses cordially offer them the opportunity to attend this event.

“We expect a record turnout of delegates for the convention in Perth, which is one of 24 to be presented by Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout Britain. Additionally, the campaign will advertise international conventions scheduled to take place in Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland during July and August.

“More than 98,000 congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide will share in advertising their local convention with the special invitations.”

Other features of the programme will be a Bible-based drama presentation on Sunday by Ian Cooper and the public discourse will be given by Colin Lang from Inverness that afternoon.

Mr Sneddon added, “The Witnesses believe that mankind sorely needs deliverance from the effects of inherited sin and its consequences, death.

“They feel that God can bring about that kind of deliverance.

“Other subjects to be discussed from the platform will be how to attain a happy family life and how young people can resist the temptations of immoral conduct.”

The convention begins on Friday at 9.30am and admission is free. Morning sessions will start at 9.30am with the afternoon events taking place at 2pm on Friday and Saturday and 1.40pm on Sunday.
