Driver hurt in horrific crash

The car on its side almost within the cottage.

A YOUNG female driver was seriously injured in a horrific car crash near Carnoustie last night which also left an elderly householder in hospital, writes Andrew Jarret.

Both were hurt after the car left the Panbride road and largely demolished Number 2 Bleachfield Cottage shortly after 10pm.

The woman suffered severe injuries after her Kia Sportage smashed through the bedroom wall of the roadside cottage and came to rest on its side.

The elderly occupant was in the room at the time and was extremely fortunate to suffer less serious injuries.

Firefighters and paramedics worked for nearly two hours to free the woman from the car, the work made all the more difficult by the perilous condition of the cottage roof and wall.

A police spokesperson said that another vehicle, a Vauxhall Corsa, belonging to the woman’s boyfriend had also been involved and had come to rest in a nearby field. He was said to be uninjured.

Police closed the road for some hours. Structural engineers were sent to inspect the damaged cottage.

An ambulance spokesperson described the woman’s condition as “serious,” but her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

The resident was described as “walking wounded.”
