Sea Fest plan for big bang

Arbroath Sea Fest is set to go with a bang as organisers plan a huge fireworks display on the evening of Saturday, August 19, to mark the event’s l0th anniversary.

Sea Fest is looking forward not just to a special birthday but the time, perhaps in another 10 years, when it will become Scotland’s national sea festival.

Sea Fest committee chairman Alastair Martin confirmed discussions are under way with safety representatives from Angus Council in a bid to stage the fireworks display in the harbour area and that a ceilidh had also been pencilled in.

The event, which is designed as a thank you to the people of Arbroath and all those who have supported Sea Fest over the past 10 years, is expected to draw substantial crowds.

“We are always looking for new ways to improve Sea Fest,” Mr Martin said, “and having a fireworks display on the Saturday evening will help us achieve this.

“However, throughout the weekend, we will have a wide range of activities and displays covering everything from the coastguard to a demonstration of sheepdog trials.”

Sea Fest continues the following day.
