THE MASSIVE pod of dolphins visiting the Tay this summer has made for a memorable start to the East Coast Sailing Week. Organisers of the annual tournament, which visits the Tay, Forth and north-east of England on a rotating basis, said it got off to a great start at the weekend with weather conditions and a warm Dundee welcome. Co-chairwoman Francis Jamieson, from hosts Royal Tay Yacht Club, said sailors from across Scotland and the north of England loved visiting the Tay, with the action packed week drawing a bumper number of entrants. She said, “Everyone says they have a great time when they visit the Tay and I’m sure this year is going to be no different. “We have around 40 yachts across four different classes ranging in size up to approximately 40 feet. There’s a great camaraderie between everyone and a great spirit during the races and off the water too. “We had our first two races yesterday, one of which was sponsored by Dundee City Council between the bridges as part of the Dundee Summer Festival.” Ms Jamieson said the dolphins had helped make opening day special with around 40 paying close attention to the yachts. She said, “All the crews were delighted to see them up close, they’re a great tourist attraction and it helps make this event even more appealing.” Races will continue every day until Friday, with spectators welcome to visit the club. |
