SUMMER VISITORS to an Angus restaurant are being tempted by the chance of winning a trip to the other side of the world.

Popular with locals and visitors for a menu which includes unusual dishes such as crocodile and kangaroo, Kookaburra’s on the outskirts of Forfar has served up the tasty prospect of a 10-day trip down under for two people.

Chef Darren Hill has made his mark with the busy eatery since opening the business five years ago and hopes the holiday promotion, sponsored by Dundee firm Travelmood, will help turn food fans’ minds to both his native Oz and adopted homeland.

“Restaurant customers are being asked to put their name and address on the back of their receipt when they come to the restaurant and we’ll be drawing the winner at the Forfar Food Fest on Saturday, August 12,” said Darren, who will be taking a lead role in the summer showcase.

He is to commentate on festival attractions including the Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook competition and a showdown involving some of Angus’s best junior chefs.

“Hopefully it might mean that some more people will come down to the Food Fest to see if they are going to be lucky, and they’ll be able to see everything that’s going on,” added Darren.

“The winner might also want to use the holiday to make it a food-themed trip and visit places like the Sydney fish market, which is the biggest in the southern hemisphere.”
