WHATEVER YOUR favourite mode of transport, the Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre’s wings, wheels and steam jamboree this weekend promises something of interest. The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday at the Broomfield sports ground and there will be the usual mixture of old favourites and new attractions, suitable for all ages. The highlight of the opening on Saturday will be a flypast featuring Tornado F3s from 43 squadron, which although now based at Leuchars, had connections with Montrose in the earliest days of its existence. Over the weekend other attractions will include an assault course, a bouncy castle, assorted stalls, a miniature railway, helicopter rides and giant kite flying and kite workshop. There have been over 95 entries for the vehicle rally. The heritage centre itself will be open on both days, with its radio station operating, with free admission for jamboree ticket holders. Visitors will also have an opportunity to win a day down memory lane and a trip between Brechin and Bridge of Dun on a Caledonian Railway steam train pulled by Thomas the Tank Engine. Entry to the jamboree will be from Broomfield Road, beside the Roselea football ground. |
