| Chief Scout Peter dares to pay visit | |||

By Dave Lord STICKY BACK plastic was mysteriously missing when ex-Blue Peter star Peter Duncan met 1000 Scouts from all over the globe in Perthshire yesterday. The TV star, who most recently impressed during Channel 4’s sporting challenge The Games, was acting in his role as the UK Chief Scout when he called in to monitor events at the international jamborette at Blair Atholl. Youngsters from 15 countries watched as Peter was put through his paces during his first official visit to Scotland. “Many people will remember Peter Duncan for his daring exploits on Blue Peter and Duncan Dares in the 1980s,” said a spokesman. “However, he is also the figurehead for Scouts in the UK and his sense of adventure was put to the test by taking part in activities along with the Scouts.” The star certainly seemed to enjoy his visit. “Scouting is very much alive and well in the 21st century and events like the Blair Atholl jamborette show how much young people can get out of it,” he said. “They are having a great time and are working together and living together, learning to take responsibility. “I can think of no better organisation to provide young people with opportunities and experiences like these, which help them develop into successful, confident adults. “The leaders also get a tremendous amount out of being involved,” he went on. “Being a leader gives people the chance to contribute to the positive development of tomorrow’s adults.” The jamborette started at the weekend and organisers yesterday hailed it as a “huge success.” It draws to a close tomorrow. |
