Man faces charges of breach of harm order

A FIFE man who is the first in Scotland to be subject to an order designed to protect children from sexual harm is to appear in court charged with breaching it.

A Risk of Sexual Harm Order was imposed on Ian Robertson (57), of Auchtermuchty, by Cupar Sheriff Court last month.

The legislation is targeted at individuals who have displayed certain inappropriate behaviour towards children and are intended to restrict them from specified activities, such as meeting or contacting a particular child or loitering in particular areas.

It was introduced by the Scottish Executive last year under the Protection of Children and Prevention of Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2005.

An interim order was made against Mr Robertson on June 21 and a full order was granted last Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Crown Office confirmed Mr Robertson is to appear in the High Court in Edinburgh on August 17 on three charges of breaching an interim Risk of Sexual Harm Order.

He also faces two charges in relation to the Criminal Law Consolidation Act 1995.
