Spitfires to return for air show

THE BATTLE of Britain Memorial Flight due to take to the sky above Leuchars today will be returning to the base in September for the famous air show.

Hurricanes and Spitfires putting on a show for this weekend’s 90th anniversary celebrations of 43 (Fighter) Squadron will return for a public display at the show on Saturday, September 9.

Tickets are on sale for the hugely popular event which regularly attracts around 45,000 people and which will also feature flying displays by the Red Arrows and a list of RAF, Royal Navy, civilian and foreign aircraft.

As this year marks not only 90 years of the 43 (F) Squadron but also of 56 (Reserve) Squadron, many of the aircraft taking to the sky will be those flown by the squadrons over the years.

The air show will not be held next year because of runway resurfacing work.
