AN EXHIBITION detailing 100 years of the Labour movement in Fife was opened by Chancellor Gordon Brown at Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery yesterday. Starting in the early 1900s it celebrates the courageous struggles for workers’ rights by the people of Fife and honours the men and women who have contributed to Fife’s rich political history through their work in the pits, the trade unions and the co-operative movement as well as in the Labour Party. The exhibition, which runs until August 13 in the Living Room, also looks at how the history of Labour in Fife is firmly woven into the fabric of the British Labour Party, which celebrates its centenary as the Parliamentary Labour Party this year. |
