A MOTORCYCLIST killed in a three-vehicle accident in Fife on Wednesday was an RAF corporal who had served around the world. Cpl Simon Kent (28) died when his Honda motorbike was involved in a collision with a van and car on the busy A914 between St Michaels and the Forgan roundabout. There was said to be a “real sense of shock and loss” at the tragedy at RAF Leuchars, where he was based. The station yesterday paid tribute to the junior officer of 111 (Fighter) Squadron, known as Si, who lived in Crescent Lane, Dundee. A spokesman for the RAF said, “Corporal Si Kent was an extremely popular member of 111 (Fighter) Squadron and will be sorely missed. He had served on the squadron since 2000 and taken part in numerous operations and detachments around the world. “Hard-working and loyal, Corporal Kent was an exceptionally promising junior non-commissioned officer and it was his willingness to get stuck in with the rest of his team with good nature and enthusiasm that made him such a stalwart on the squadron. “Si’s sense of humour, his ability to mix with all others and his ability to work in a team made him a great character to have on a fast jet squadron and there is a real sense of shock and loss at his tragic death.” A woman driver was taken to hospital after the collision, at around 7.15am near Fordelhill Farm. Contrary to earlier reports, however, the Mini she was driving was not directly involved in the fatal accident but in a secondary collision that occurred as she reached the scene. The road, a main route to and from the Tay Road Bridge, was closed for almost six hours and traffic diverted via the B945 through Tayport to allow investigations to be conducted. Fife Police have appealed for anyone to contact them who witnessed the accident or saw Mr Kent’s motorbike or the Volkswagen Golf or white Ford Escort van which were involved prior to it. |
