FORFAR’S LITTLE bloomers yesterday started to sow the seeds of their contribution to a town garden project.

The children from the Wendyhouse nursery in North Street visited Lilybank resource centre in Arbroath Road, where a biodiverse garden is being developed in a bid to improve the local environment and establish stronger links between the facility and the wider community.

The Wendyhouse children are to set up and maintain a herb garden at the Arbroath Road centre as part of the overall scheme, which recently received a £6000 grant from Tayside Biodiversity Partnership.

Lilybank caters for around 50 adults with learning disabilities. Currently service users’ gardening groups, run in conjunction with Angus College, maintain the centre’s grounds.

In addition to developing the ground around the centre, the new biodiversity garden project aims to give people in the community an opportunity to get more involved with the centre and be practically involved in a local environmental project.

A scented garden will be created featuring plants with unusual textures and those that will attract butterflies, birds, ladybirds and other insect life.

In addition there are plans to add a pond and nesting boxes to encourage bats, hedgehogs, squirrels and other wildlife.
