The Banchory Bangle. |

|
A PERTHSHIRE craftsman has created a gold and diamond bangle which could raise more than £10,000 for charity. The Banchory Bangle made by jeweller Malcolm Appleby of Grandtully has become an annual tradition and a valuable fund-raiser for Children 1st. This year’s bangle, to be raffled at the Touch of Tartan Ball in Aberdeen, features primroses. In the 1970s Mr Appleby crafted a bangle in silver, displaying it in the butcher’s shop window in Banchory. It was sold to the highest bidder and proceeds were donated to Children 1st. Over the years the bangle has become a collector’s item and is raffled for £1 per ticket at the ball. It is made from donated unwanted gold, sent to London and melted down. Last year the raffle raised more than £10,000, helping to bring the total donated to Children 1st from the ball to over £88,000. Raffle tickets, which will be drawn on November 17, are available from Children 1st on 01224 251151 or 01224 622814 . |
