Sickening attack on woman of 93

A FRAIL 93-year-old woman was subjected to a terrifying assault and robbery in Perthshire at the weekend, it has emerged.

Police say the pensioner, who was only carrying a very small sum of money at the time, was attacked by a teenager in Blairgowrie on Saturday afternoon.

The sickening assault took place at around 4.45pm and police are urging members of the public to get in touch as they bid to track down the “despicable” youth responsible.

The woman was walking in the pend that runs from The Croft area to the town’s High Street when the boy launched the attack. It is understood he pushed her before snatching her handbag and making off.

Although her handbag was found nearby a short time later, her tartan purse containing a small sum of cash is still missing.

Her attacker is described as being between 15 and 17 years old, around 5 feet 10 inches tall and of slim build.

At the time of the assault he was wearing a white T-shirt.

Police report that the woman has been left “extremely shaken” and have asked members of the public with any information to contact them on 01738 621141 or speak to any officer.

Ian Borthwick of Age Concern said he was sickened by the incident.

“This is tragically another example of a despicable act against an extremely vulnerable person,” he told The Courier.
