A YOUNG woman was almost hit by a taxi as she desperately sought help following an indecent assault in Perth, writes Dave Lord. The female was walking in the Glasgow Road area at around 6am when a man accompanied by a dog approached. Police say she was subjected to an indecent assault and was left so shaken that she ran into the road in a bid to call assistance—and was only narrowly missed by a taxi which swerved to avoid her. A brief police statement including an appeal for witnesses was last night released. It revealed that detectives are particularly keen to track down the taxi driver, whose identity remains a mystery. A spokesman for Tayside Police gave details of the attack. “The assault occurred at about 6am on Sunday in Glasgow Road, near to Rose Crescent,” he told The Courier. The spokesman continued, “A young woman was indecently assaulted by a male who was in possession of a dog. “It is believed that a passing taxi had to swerve to avoid knocking the woman over as she attempted to seek assistance immediately after the incident.” Police hope witnesses will come forward as they attempt to track down the dog owner, although they were unable to give a more detailed description. “Anyone who witnessed or has information about this incident, in particular the taxi driver, should contact Tayside Police on 01738 621141.” Police last night declined to reveal the age of the female victim. |
