A MONTROSE woman has voiced her “complete outrage” after being turned away from two fast-food restaurants in Dundee because she was with her five-week-old son. Laura Robertson has written to KFC and Pizza Hut looking for answers after both establishments turned down her request for hot water to warm her son’s bottle and has also vowed never to eat in either establishment again. “We asked both restaurants to provide us with a jug of hot water to warm my son’s bottle and were told it was against health and safety regulations,” said Mrs Robertson. “We could not understand this rule as this would mean that it was also against health and safety to sell tea, coffee, hot chocolate and soup. “We then asked if they could warm the bottle for us, but they said no as they may heat it too hot and burn the baby. We understood their point of view on this subject. “KFC and Pizza Hut were discriminating against my child and me, I was allowed to eat there but not my baby. “There are three points I do not understand. “Why is it not against health and safety to provide tea, coffee and soup? “Why is it possible to provide a jug of hot water to water down strong tea or coffee? “Why can other not so well-known establishments provide water or heating facilities?” Mrs Robertson said she was “surprised and disappointed” that KFC and Pizza Hut did not appear to welcome customers that are unable to eat solid foods. After discussions with other families in the area, Mrs Robertson says it turns out she is not the only person to suffer this kind of discrimination. “I feel that in this day and age to discriminate against anyone is outrageous,” she added. No one was available at either KFC or Pizza Hut’s press offices for comment yesterday. |
