| Final march for Legion branch | |||
|
Past and present members of the Friockheim branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland will gather in the village next weekend to mark the end of an era. After being in existence for more than 70 years, the branch is to fold due to dwindling membership. The remaining members of the Friockheim branch will be joined by representatives from other British Legion branches from across Angus next Sunday when they march with their colours along Gardyne Street for a laying-up service at Friockheim and Kinnell Church. The branch colour party will be piped into the church and, following the service, the members and their partners and guests will travel to Arbroath for a buffet at the Arbroath branch clubrooms in Helen Street. The parade will assemble at 2.30pm and march off at 2.40pm. Members who are unable to take part should be at the church for 3pm. Anyone requiring further details can contact Ally Eggie on 01241 828440. The Friockheim branch started in the mid-1930s after founder member Ken Duthie bought the vacant Free Church in Gardyne Street and renamed it the Central Hall. In 1946 Mr Duthie gave the hall to the branch and over the years dances and concerts were held, attracting members and friends from a wide area. |
