THE FIRST in this year’s series of Armitstead lectures took place in Dundee last night. The popular lectures were started in 1882 by Dundee flax merchant and MP George Armitstead. Last night’s talk was given by Evelyn Hood, who discussed the career of Thomas Smith, Scotland’s first scientific lighthouse engineer.
