Care home offer at last for pensioner stuck in hospital

AN 81-YEAR-OLD woman stranded in Ninewells Hospital in Dundee since May has at last been offered a place in a residential home.

Elizabeth Graczyk is too frail to return to her former home in a sheltered housing complex in Kirkton and there was no suitable alternative accommodation.

Dundee City Council advised Mrs Graczyk that she could speed up her discharge from hospital if she would agree to take a place in another home until her first choice of one in Menzieshill became available.

Happily, Mrs Graczyk agreed and has now accepted a place in another home in the city, said a council spokesman.

Her daughter Katherine Hay has said that while the family have no complaints about Ninewells, and the staff there are doing the best they can, her mother had been moved around to different wards and was “bed blocking” there.

The situation had caused her mother to become “highly depressed.”
