PUPILS FROM St Columba’s High School in Perth enjoyed some high-energy sports activities at Bell’s Sports Centre yesterday. The youngsters took part in basketball, trampolining, football and badminton. Later this week, youngsters throughout Perth and Kinross will be enjoying their first taster sessions in athletics disciplines as part of the Fun in Athletics festival. The festival provides young people with an introduction to athletics and gives them their first taste of the excitement of track and field events in a safe environment. Disciplines include the standing long jump, javelin, speed bounce, vertical jump and various types of relay races. Around 150 P6 and P7 pupils from the Kinross High school cluster will take part in their session on Thursday, while more than 200 pupils from the Perth area will be at the sports centre on November 15. Pupils will take part in a variety of indoor track and field events and be awarded points for their performance. These points are put towards their team’s score, with the winning team from each festival (Kinross, Auchterarder and the three in Perth) progressing to the Perth final to be held at Norwich Union on December 4. The winner from the event will then be charged with representing Perth and Kinross in the Tayside festival, which takes place in Dundee on January 22. |
