Chance to take in historic mural

Elder Morag Baker holds a photo of the mural in front of some of the original panels that make up the artwork in Dysart Kirk.

PEOPLE IN the Kirkcaldy area will this weekend get another glimpse of a historic mural which had been thought to be lost forever.

The artwork in Dysart Kirk was created by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1901 but was painted over during various redecoration projects throughout the last few decades.

In 2004, however, members of the congregation agreed to sanction an attempt to uncover four of the 12 panels which had been painted, provided the necessary funding could be obtained.

Thanks to money from the Dysart Regeneration Initiative and other groups, the four panels have now been restored.

They will be on display during an open day at the church from 10am to 4pm on Saturday.

Crafts, cake and candy and refreshments will be on sale, although members of the public interested in going along to the exhibition are advised that no cameras or mobile phones are allowed in Dysart Kirk.
