AN ANGUS teenager clocked driving at 131mph has been warned custody remains a “live possibility.” William Skea (18), of Burnside, Forfar, yesterday appeared before Sheriff Kevin Veal at the town’s sheriff court where he admitted driving dangerously and at excessive speed on the A90 Dundee-Aberdeen dual carriageway at Gateside on July 22. Depute fiscal Mrs Donna Brown told the court Skea was seen by police travelling “well in excess” of the speed limit on the outside lane of the southbound dual carriageway around 9pm The fiscal added that there was a suggestion that the Citroen Saxo he was driving had been modified. The car was also seen to brake sharply before turning off the dual carriageway and Skea made no comment when he was pulled in by officers, the court heard. Defence agent Nick Markowski said, “He is fully aware of the repercussions of his plea.” He added that the teenager was working with his father but his intention was to pursue a military career as a paratrooper. The lawyer asked Sheriff Veal to deal with the case without calling for reports to allow Skea to join the forces. “If he is subject to community service, probation or custody that will be lost.” Sheriff Veal rejected the plea and said he could not deal with the matter without appropriate background material. “This is a ridiculous speed for anybody and for a young man of 18 years old is quite unacceptable. “He not only put himself at risk but every other road user at this speed. “You have no idea of what you are going to find from second to second at this speed. “There is a public aspect here and I think it would be quite wrong to dispose of this without a report. “At this level of speed custody is a live possibility.” Sheriff Veal deferred sentence until December 14 and imposed an interim disqualification on Skea. |
