Woman in police assault over fallen trousers

A PERTH woman launched a furious assault on two police officers after they refused to help pull up her trousers.

Perth Sheriff Court heard how Angela Fleming was originally arrested for her role in a foul mouthed and noisy argument over her mother’s choice of new boyfriend.

However, the 18-year-old’s sorry situation deteriorated yet further when she was handcuffed—a development which somehow caused her trousers to fall down.

Solicitor Lousie Wade said the ignominious situation only added fuel to Fleming’s already somewhat delicate emotional state, causing her to lash out at the police officers.

Fleming admitted that on August 5 at her home on Strathtay Road she conducted herself in a disorderly manner, shouting, swearing and committing a breach of the peace. She further pleaded guilty to lashing out at two police constables with her arms and legs.

Depute Fiscal Stuart Richardson gave details of the offences.

“At about 3.30am on the day in question police received a 999 call requesting them to attend at Ms Fleming’s home address,” he told the court.

“When they arrived outside the property it was clear something was going on inside.

“The accused was engaged in a furious argument with certain family members.

“Ms Fleming was shouting and swearing and, after failing to desist when asked by police, began lashing out.

“Both officers were struck on their legs.”

Ms Wade said her client had been drinking and that this had contributed towards the offences.

“At the time my client was at her home address which she shares with her partner,” the solicitor said.

“She had been visited by her mother and an argument regarding a man her mother had begun to socialise with ensued.

“She was not happy about her mother seeing this person.

“My client had taken a drink and was not as calm as she might have been.”

The solicitor said a bizarre chain of events was then set in motion.

“As police handcuffed Ms Fleming her trousers fell down to her ankles,” Ms Wade said.

“Because she was in handcuffs her attempts to pull up her trousers were unsuccessful.

“She asked the police for assistance but they did not co-operate, instead dragging her along the ground.

“My client was angered by this and began to lash out.”

Sheriff Michael Fletcher fined Fleming £200.
