A LUCKY Fife couple are set to welcome one of the UK’s most popular radio shows into their living room next month after winning the opportunity live on air. Mary and Bob Murdoch, from Auchterderran near Cardenden, will have DJ Chris Evans broadcasting live from their home on December 4, after the small parish was plucked out of a special ‘UK tombola’ containing the names of every city, town, village and hamlet in the country. And if that wasn’t enough, top Scottish rockers Primal Scream will also be performing in one of their bedrooms as part of the unique Radio 2 outside broadcast. The amazing turn of events came about after Auchterderran was picked as one of three random Scottish places on Monday’s Drivetime show, with listeners then invited to call in and suggest why Evans and his crew should visit their homes. But Mary (60), who duly texted in the area’s claim to fame, admitted she didn’t realise at first that her actions would actually see the celebrity DJ descend on her house in Balgreggie Road in less than a fortnight. “I’ve got Radio 2 set in the car and as soon as I heard Auchterderran mentioned I just flew into the house and texted in,” she said. “I just couldn’t believe it—when you think they might pick bigger places like Kirkcaldy or Dunfermline, or even the likes of Glasgow or Edinburgh, it’s just amazing that they are coming here. “But we’ll be entertaining Chris Evans and his crew with a very friendly Scottish welcome, put it that way.” With preparations for the broadcast already under way, Mary’s husband Bob (67) revealed he was trying to take a back seat from all of the fuss. “All of our friends and relations are delighted but I don’t know where everybody’s going to go,” he joked. The Drivetime broadcast will be aired live on Monday, December 4, from 5-7pm, although Mr and Mrs Murdoch are also due to appear briefly on this Monday’s show as a prelude. |
