COMMUNITIES ACROSS Perthshire were relieved yesterday by news that water levels were beginning to recede. Many people started the day fearing the prospect of water levels rising to levels that would endanger their homes, but found the night had passed without incident. Many low-lying areas remained underwater yesterday but without much overnight rain, the danger of flooding appeared to be diminishing. The number of severe flood warning in Perthshire issued by SEPA had fallen from six on Monday to three yesterday. Of the River Tay from Dunkeld to Perth a SEPA spokesman said, “While the River Tay is running at a very high level, with no significant rain overnight levels should continue to drop throughout the day.” The other severe warnings still in force were the Tay from Kenmore to the A9 road bridge upstream of Dunkeld and the Kenmore and Loch Tay area. The floodgates in Perth remained closed yesterday, posing a problem for an ambulance crew. Called to attend a woman on the North Inch who had been knocked over by a dog shortly after 8am, they found it difficult to get the patient to their vehicle due to the obstacle. Firefighters were called in and they assisting in getting the woman to the ambulance for treatment. |
