PERTH AND Kinross is the perfect location for the latest civil service jobs to be relocated from Edinburgh, according to two MSPs.
Five public bodies will be reviewed for dispersal under the Scottish Executive’s relocation policy.
They are the police complaints commissioner (10 jobs); Scottish Legal Complaints Commission (60 jobs); Creative Scotland (130 jobs); Scottish Charity Appeals Panel (five jobs); and the Co-operative Development Agency (10 jobs).
Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser and Perth MSP Roseanna Cunningham MSP believe Perth and Kinross has been missing out, with the area yet to receive a single job as a result of the policy.
Ms Cunningham said the reasons for previous disappointment were “fatuous.”
Mr Fraser said, “I welcome the news that over 200 jobs will be reviewed for the possibility of transfer out of Edinburgh to other parts of Scotland and I hope Perth and Kinross will attract some or all of these agencies.”
He continued, “I find it difficult to understand why Perth and Kinross has not benefited as it is close to the central belt as well as the doorstep to the Highlands.
“This is a prime location for any of the civil service jobs and the facilities in Perth and towns in Perth and Kinross make the area an attractive option.”
Ms Cunningham said, “With these five bodies, there are over 200 jobs to be located or relocated across Scotland and any one of them would be welcomed in Perthshire.
“This area has been overlooked in the past as a result of frankly fatuous reasoning by the Executive.
“Perthshire is a great place to live and do business and our position at the heart of Scotland makes Perth and the rest of Perthshire ideal for national organisations.”
