A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was among 13 drink-drivers stopped by police in Fife at the start of a festive road safety campaign.
He was caught driving a stolen vehicle in Kelty early on Sunday.
He is the third 14-year-old to be reported for drink-driving in Fife this year.
Shocked police have urged parents and guardians to keep track of where youngsters go at night and reminded licensed traders not to sell alcohol to the under-18s.
Police are warning people of all ages about the dangers of drink-driving during their intensive Time2Act Christmas campaign, which is targeting anyone who gets behind the wheel while over the limit.
Since the safety drive was launched on Wednesday last week, five males and one female under 25 and seven men over 25 have been caught.
Numbers may be down on last year’s campaign, but Inspector John McDonald, of Fife Constabulary’s road policing department, appealed for the help of the public and licensed trade staff in catching those who still drink and drive.
He said, “People should ring the force on 01592 418888, Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 or contact the special Email address, drunkdriver@fife. police.uk.
“This could literally make the difference between life and death.
“Our campaign this year is one of the biggest we have ever mounted. Using analysis and intelligence we are targeting drink-driving hotspots, and the people we know are drinking and driving on a regular basis.
“Our message is simple: risk it, and you will be caught. It’s far simpler and safer to make alternative travel arrangements this festive period.”
Fife Council has been running a Drive Safe, Stay Alive campaign, targeting 14 and 15-year-olds at schools.
