Death of Mr Ramsay Brown

A FORMER finance and farming editor with The Courier, Mr Ramsay Brown (75), has died at his home after a long illness.

A native Dundonian, he worked at Valentine’s after leaving school and as an estimator with a local removal company before spotting a recruiting notice for the South African police.

Family connections with the region meant it had always been an ambition to travel there and he signed up for a three-year stint in what is now Zimbabwe.

He started going out with Lilian not long before leaving, became engaged by post and married on his return.

The couple moved to Dumfries and Galloway, where he joined the local police force and they then moved to Glasgow where he worked for Goodyear before returning to Dundee.

He worked for a time as a postman before joining D.C. Thomson & Co Ltd, first as a copyholder, then reader, before moving to finance and farming and retiring some 15 years ago.

He was a keen hillwalker and a member of the Monifieth Golf Club.

He was a member of Panmure Church in Monifieth, where his wife is an elder. Mr Brown is survived by his wife, son Garry, daughter Elaine and two grandchildren.
