Virtuoso fiddling at Wighton Centre

VIRTUOSO Paul Anderson gave a superb display of north-east fiddle playing at the first of the Friends of Wighton illustrated talks series in Dundee on Saturday.

He delighted the audience in the Wighton Heritage Centre with the mastery of the instrument in classics by Marshall, Gow, Skinner and Peter Milne and the depth of his musical knowledge.

Illustrating his points with recordings of past and present masters, Hector MacAndrew, Willie Hunter and Angus Grant Senior among them, he took his listeners through a fascinating musical journey.

On Wednesday there is a lunchtime recital, An Antidote To Xmas Muzak, by Wighton harper Simon Chadwick beginning at 1.15pm with free admission.

The first Saturday talk of the New Year will be given at 2pm on January 20 by the renowned Gaelic singer and scholar Anne Lorne Gillies.

Anne will be singing songs from her recent book, Songs Of Gaelic Scotland.
