A SERVICE of celebration is to be held in a Perth church on Sunday to mark the completion of a £90,000 refurbishment project.
Representatives of various trusts which helped fund the work on the windows at Kinnoull Parish Church on Dundee Road have been invited to the service, along with Provost Bob Scott.
Around half the money was raised by the congregation, with the remainder coming from the Gannochy Trust, the Guildry Incoporation, Garfield Western and the Baird, Forteviot and Cairncross Trusts.
The windows, which were taken to England for refurbishment and conservation work, are now safely back in the 1826 church.
In pride of place is the Parables of Our Lord painted glass window which was designed by the artist Sir John Millais.
“It is an absolutely stunning piece of Perth history,” said the Rev David Souter.
Interestingly, the panels incorporate local scenes and people, including Kinnoull Hill and round Perthshire threshing houses.
Other glass, including the Strachan memorial windows, have been releaded. Due to the significance of the windows to Perth the church was able to attract the assistance of the trusts.
Other work however has been wholly funded by the Friends of Kinnoull and has already seen £35,000 spent, and a further £50,000 is needed for the roof of the building which is on the site of an earlier church.
