Productive day for two open centres

SNOW SPORTS were only available at two Scottish ski centres yesterday, but The Lecht and Glenshee were busy.

Nevis Range was ruled out due to winds from a southerly direction which hit the gondola line and therefore prevented access to other uplifts.

Stormy weather is forecast today for many of the centres, with advice to check first.

The winds ruled out snow sports at CairnGorm, although there were 150 sightseers on the funicular railway.

It is forecast to be windy again today. Spokesman Roddie MacRae said “People would be well advised to check the conditions before setting out.”

The weather has also ruled out Glencoe this weekend. Heavy snow is forecast however, and the centre has hopes for next week.

The Lecht had the busiest day with around 1000 out.

Two-thirds of the 15 uplifts were running and most runs are now complete with fresh snow on a firm base.

Glenshee had three uplifts running, with skiing judged best on Claybokie which has new snow on a man-made base.

Snow continued throughout the day but was light and dry and did not greatly add to the cover for the 400 out.
