ORDERS THAT ban football fans from all grounds in the country are to be sought for any fans convicted of offences in connection with crowd trouble following Dundee United’s recent Scottish Cup clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, British Transport Police vowed yesterday.
The force was involved in apprehending three men on a train at Aviemore that was travelling from Inverness to Perth on Saturday.
Those convicted of a football-related offence face being barred from all grounds in the UK for up to 10 years. Any breach of a ban could lead to a £5000 fine and six months in prison.
The crowd trouble that occurred at and after Saturday’s match saw British Transport Police, Northern Constabulary and Tayside Police launch a three-pronged assault on combating the disorder.
A spokeswoman for Northern Constabulary said there had been six arrested and charged in connection with offences allegedly committed at the match, five for alleged breaches of the peace and one for allegedly being drunk in charge of a child.
The spokeswoman was unable to say whether any of those charged would be the subject of a banning order application.
A spokesman for Tayside Police said officers arrested and charged a further three individuals at Perth, though it is unclear whether orders would be sought for these individuals.
Scottish forces have applied for a total of 104 banning orders since the powers were introduced. To date, one has been granted.
