TOURIST BODY VisitScotland appears to have committed a major gaffe by delivering a slight on the jewel in Fife’s crown.
The latest promotional campaign—Kingdom Of Life, Kingdom Of Fife—which has been delivered to homes across Tayside and central Scotland, aims to encourage more visitors to Fife by listing many of its fantastic tourist attractions.
However, several people have contacted The Courier to explain that while the wonders of ancient Scots capital Dunfermline are revered and the delights of the East Neuk are described in glowing terms, the pamphlet delivers a blow to St Andrews.
Focusing on Scotland’s temperamental weather it says a visit to the burgh “never fails to disappoint.”
One reader said, “I’m sure it’s a printing error but it’s rather comical to see St Andrews, which must be one of Fife’s most popular tourist attractions, receiving such a slight.
“Myself and my husband really enjoy visiting St Andrews all year round and we would say it never disappoints.”
A spokesman for Visit-Scotland confirmed the tourist body had been notified of the error and had amended all new material so it did not contain the faux pas.
He added, “We obviously do not see St Andrews as some place that would disappoint. It’s one of the jewels in Fife’s crown and we look for it to attract people not just from Scotland and the rest of the UK but from across the world.
“The golf product is second to none, there are two excellent five-star hotels as well as several extremely popular attractions, so St Andrews definitely won’t disappoint.”
He added, “We see St Andrews as one of the major attractions not only in Fife but across Scotland.”
