A PROMINENT Perth building could be demolished and rebuilt as flats under plans submitted to Perth and Kinross Council.
Planners have been asked to look favourably on Fairfield Housing Co-operative’s scheme for the Leonard Street building opposite Perth bus station, formerly a garden machinery shop.
The housing association wants to tear down the existing building and replace it with a four-storey block of 16 affordable flats.
One stumbling block could be the lack of parking in the area, with the applicant acknowledging the only available space is the narrow Exchange Lane beside the building, which they accept is unsuitable.
However, the proximity to the bus and train stations would make the flats ideal for those without cars, they argue.
The plans will be considered at a later date.
