Still waiting to hear fate of her house

DUNDEE RESIDENT Jessie Sword still doesn’t know the fate of her home in Rosemount Road, Ardler, after it was struck by a bus a fortnight ago.

The 61-year-old described the news that insurers were poring over structural engineer reports to decipher exactly what work is required at the property as “little comfort.”

It is understood that initial structural reports have confirmed the house will not be demolished, although Ms Sword still looks like facing a lengthy wait to return to her home.

Speaking at her temporary home in Ardler, Ms Sword said she had finally received a sparse amount of information from Sanctuary Housing late last week. “They’re now telling me the front facade of the house might have to come off so that engineers can assess the beams inside and whether or not they have suffered any damage.

“They can’t give me any indication what sort of time it will take, but I’m just hoping there can be some sort of timeframe put in place so at least I can look forward to moving back in.”

With Ms Sword’s property placed in storage following the accident she has had an almost daily struggle to visit storage firm Bradley’s to collect more of her belongings.

She added, “It’s not easy when your life is all packed up in boxes. I’ve got some of my things, but there’s so much in Bradley’s that it’s just not possible for me to get it all.”

Ms Sword said she felt real sympathy with residents of a Forfar block of flats, who were forced to leave their homes after a car crashed into the property last week.

She said, “I hope everything works out for them. It’s a terrible feeling being forced out of your home with no idea if you will ever get back, it’s just an awful experience and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.”

A spokeswoman for Sanctuary said, “We have now received the engineer’s report and this has been passed to our insurers.

“They are currently determining what work is required to restore the property to its original condition and once they have established this they will be in a position to appoint a contractor to carry out the works.”
