THE ROOF was almost lifted from the rafters of St Paul’s Cathedral in Dundee last night as the BBC recorded a version of its hugely popular Songs Of Praise programme.
Over the past two nights a film crew have taken over the Episcopal cathedral and filled it with lights and cameras.
The action followed last night when 370 local church members came together to form a joint congregation for a Songs Of Praise service presented by BBC Scotland’s Sally Magnusson.
The singing was led by the Rev John Bell of the Iona Community and included renditions of classics hymns such as Crown Him With Many Crowns and All Hail The Power Of Jesus’ Name.
Among the musical groups taking part in proceedings were the cathedral choir, the university chamber choir, members of the city’s Cecilian choir, the cathedral’s pastoral musician Stuart Muir and the Dundee Young Fiddlers Orchestra.
The Dundee edition of Songs Of Praise is set to air simultaneously on BBC1 and across the European cable network on May 20.
