DUNDEE UNITED winger Steven Robb has been given the go-ahead to resume training next week after taking delivery of specially-made boots.
The 24-year-old’s season has been curtailed by a succession of hamstring injuries, but it was recently discovered that a pelvic problem relating to his running style is at the root of the trouble.
The former Dundee man played his first game for two months against St Mirren a fortnight ago but pulled up again in a reserve game only three days later.
Robb has now been fitted for new footwear which will ease the pressure on his frame and hopefully cure his ills for good.
“My injury problems have stemmed from my pelvis and the way I have been running,” he said.
“I have had insoles fitted so I have to collect the new boots over the weekend and the physio says I can go back into full training on Monday.”
ST JOHNSTONE boss Owen Coyle will wait until Monday to assess the fitness of central defender Allan McManus.
The former Airdrie player strained his groin during last Saturday’s match against Hamilton and hasn’t trained since.
“We’ll check Allan out on Monday and we’re desperate for him to be fit, but if he isn’t able to train we’ll have to rule him out of Wednesday’s semi against Motherwell,” said Coyle.
“It would be a blow as we already have Kevin Rutkiewicz out for the season and Steven Anderson suspended, but we have options.
“Simon Mensing or Andy Lawrie could slot into a central defensive position, but we’re not going down that road just yet.”
Coyle has had cup opponents Motherwell watched on several occasions.
“Sandy (Stewart) went to see them last Tuesday against St Mirren when we were playing our Forfarshire Cup semi against Brechin,” he added. “We’ve seen them in action three times this season and they’re a very good team.”
ABERDEEN manager Jimmy Calderwood is considering taking his team to a training camp in Alexandria after making a flying visit to Egypt.
The Dons drew 0-0 against Bohemians in the Republic of Ireland last night.
