McGlynn hopes for big support

WITH THE feel-good factor returning to Stark’s Park with a vengeance recently, RAITH ROVERS manager John McGlynn has urged the Kirkcaldy faithful to turn out at today’s home match with rock bottom FORFAR ATHLETIC.

Rovers cemented their position in fourth place with a 2-0 win over Ayr in midweek and McGlynn’s men go into this afternoon’s clash full of confidence after notching five wins out of the last six games and a sixth straight clean sheet into the bargain.

The Raith boss is well aware of the damage complacency can do, however, and has challenged his players to aim as high up the league as possible going into the final 10 fixtures.

“I think we’re in the driving seat for fourth place now but we have to go about things professionally and continue what we’ve been doing,” McGlynn said.

“Whether its Morton, Stirling, Brechin or Forfar you play, it’s still the same three points you get in the end and you’ve got to approach every game like that.

“We’re doing well at home again and our away results have been good so that’s a big boost for the fans and they’ve been getting right behind us.

“It would be rewarding to the players if we could get a big crowd on Saturday and the fans have steadily been coming back to watch us—if we were to get something like 2000 or more coming, that would be excellent.”

Derek Carcary suffered a knock in the midweek win over Ayr but should be fit for the visit of Forfar, while Marvin Andrews is again expected to feature after recovering from a thigh strain.

Forfar boss George Shaw hopes his side can raise their game to take on what he regards as the division’s in-form outfit.

The Loons campaign is looking more like a lost cause by the week with the Station Park side now nine points adrift at the basement and Shaw’s season-long selection gloom shows no sign of abating.

At least on the plus side the manager can look forward to the return of striker Darren Gribben from suspension.

Both Paul Lunan and Ritchie Montgomerie are also set to be named in the squad after making their way back from lengthy injuries.

But with Alan Rattray, Craig Lumsden, David Dunn and David King all still out Shaw continues to have a “major problem” in mounting a strong defence.

Gregory Tade will also be absent after an x-ray confirmed ankle ligament damage which will keep him on the treatment table for the next couple of weeks.
