VANDALS HAVE struck at the old Kennoway Primary School in Fife yet again, setting fire to the building last night just days after a councillor warned of the danger.
Firefighters from Methil were called to the building in Langside Crescent shortly before 8pm.
They found two fires had been lit inside the building that was vacated a few weeks ago when the school moved to new premises.
The fires were quickly extinguished and nobody was injured in the incident.
Fife Council has been criticised for not demolishing the building and local councillor Bryan Thacker has said it should have foreseen the problem.
The building has been vandalised by gangs of youths, sometimes numbering up to 50. They have used stones and golf clubs to smash windows and doors.
Just days ago Mr Thacker said it was a matter of when and not if the old school went up in flames.
Last night his prediction almost came true, and he said firefighters’ lives could be put at risk by the vandals.
The council has pledged to step up its plan to demolish the building.
