Work starts on £140,000 cycle route

WORK HAS started on a new cycle route from Falkland to Strathmiglo, passing the popular Pillars of Hercules organic farm.

The majority of the £140,000 project involves upgrading of an existing footpath through Falkland Estate, jointly funded by SEStrans and the council.

Local councillor Ewen Jardine said once complete the track would be a great boon to cyclists and walkers, and would hopefully attract families and people of all ages.

He said, “The new track is likely to prove very popular in encouraging cyclists to visit Falkland and Strathmiglo, wherever they are travelling.

“The route travels through beautiful countryside at the base of the Lomond Hills and connects the hill road between Leslie and Falkland with the Dryside road from Strathmiglo to Kinnesswood.”

All estate roads will remain open to users as normal during the work, being undertaken by Gilmartins of Cupar. However, the council said it regretted any inconvenience caused to walkers during construction of the cycle route.

It said disruption would be kept to a minimum and the work would be complete by early next month.
