Caird Hall hosts brass band contest

THE CAIRD Hall in Dundee hosed the Scottish Brass Band Championships over the weekend, attracting 49 bands from across the country.

Organised by the Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA), the competition involved musicians of all ages and finished last night with the judges deciding on the overall winners of the event.

Championship winners Kirkintilloch and runners-up Whitburn will now go on to represent Scotland at the national championships at the Albert Hall later in the year. They have also gained a place at the European Brass Band championship in Stavanger, Norway.

SBBA spokesman Kenneth Crookston said, “This weekend represented the most important event of the year for Scottish brass bands.”

He added, “It was very successful and well attended.”

Results, championship—Kirkintilloch and Whitburn; first section—Newmilns and Galston and Dunaskin Doon; second section—St Ronan’s Silver and Granite City Brass; third section—Campbeltown Brass and Perthshire Brass; fourth section—Buckhaven and Methil and Dundee Instrumental (St Margaret’s).
