Youth sports worker in internet image probe

A YOUTH sports worker faces an investigation by Dundee City Council after posting an apparently indecent image of himself on a publicly accessible website.

Craig Blyth (21), part of the council’s youth sport development project team at the city’s Lynch Centre, was pictured posing with his trousers undone on networking site Bebo.

An outraged parent said internet-savvy children could easily have seen the photo.

“The gentlemen is a sports officer with Dundee’s sports development section and deals with kids and vulnerable adults on a daily basis,” said the parent.

“This site is available for the public of all ages to view and sets a very bad example.”

Mr Blyth last night denied he had exposed himself in the shot. He claimed the photo showed him holding a cuddly toy.

“There is nothing exposed at all. I think you will see it is a horse,” he said.

“It is like a cuddly horse.”

A description next to the picture, bearing highly suggestive language, appeared to allude to it in fact containing X-rated content.

Mr Blyth insisted the image was clean, adding, “I don’t really know what to say about it.”

His profile on the popular website network was blocked to public access later last night.

A city council spokesman confirmed an investigation was being launched in light of the allegation.

“As with any complaint or information of this nature we will investigate and speak to the member of staff concerned before deciding what the appropriate course of action should be.”

The council youth sports development project works with children of all ages promoting participation in communities across the city.

Bebo is open to anyone aged 13 or over and has developed into an online community.
