Making a point of discovering Dundee’s jazz and art scenes

THE NEXT Discovery Point Jazz Cafe Club event will be held on Friday April 27 featuring Dundee favourites the Yvonne Robb Trio with Yvonne, still going strong at 80 on keyboards and vocals, with Walt Smith on clarinet and John Whyte on guitar.

They will be playing a selection of classical jazz and swing.

The cafe accommodates up to 50 guests seated at individual tables, providing a relaxed atmosphere—if you can get a ticket, given the popularity of club events in the past.

Tickets are priced at £14 each (£12 for Friends of Dundee Heritage Trust, season ticket holders and corporate members.) Prices include a light finger buffet and a cash bar will be available on the night.

All proceeds go towards the restoration of RRS Discovery and the Keep Verdant Working Appeal.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the concert is set to start at 8pm.

The following day, Saturday April 28, sees the opening of Discovery Point’s latest art exhibition.

The Artists’ Lunch is a group of professional artists from Angus, Dundee and Fife who meet regularly to discuss art and life and offer mutual support in a profession that inevitably involves working in isolation.

The group has been in existence for almost 10 years, exhibiting in various parts of Scotland at least once a year.

The members include painters in oil and water-based media, printmakers using a variety of techniques and others who use collage and various found materials to create their images.

Some of the work is representational, some abstract and there are also considerable differences in scale.

The exhibition will reflect the variety of approach of the members, as they express their creative response to life, in visual terms, in an array of different techniques and philosophies.

The exhibition runs until July 26, admission is free, and opening times are Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, Sunday 11am to 5pm.
