Ladies face a bold snip for charity

A GROUP of hardy Perthshire women are set to brave the barber’s scissors at a charity event tonight.

The Little Princess Trust —which provides real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer or other serious illnesses —will benefit from the event being held at the Kenmore Hotel.

Liz Stott is among the big-hearted locals up for the chop—and admitted being a little apprehensive.

“On the night a few of the girls are having their head shaved,” she said.

“I am one of them and am donating 15 inches of hair for wig-making. Another six are donating pony tails of a minimum 10 inches.”

Among them is little Hannah Merry from Grandtully, aged just five, and Liz hopes she will act as an example.

“We are also having a 50/50 bucket where people buy raffle tickets for a one-off prize of 50% of the takings with the other 50% going to the charity,” she said, “and a tombola with prizes ranging from easter eggs and perfume to booze and two fish suppers.”

The fund-raising efforts will be followed by a disco and karaoke event.

Liz has often helped charities in the past and decided to help the Little Princess Trust after reading about it on the internet.

“The charity was picked as I wanted to get my hair cut and thought it would be nice if someone could benefit from it,” she said.

“I came across the Little Princess Trust and read more about it on their web site. I decided it was a good charity as all the money raised goes to the charity, unlike some bigger organisations that only receive a few pence in every pound.

“I did the Great Wall of China Trek in 2003 and my friends and I raised around £8000 for the national asthma campaign,” she said.

“Unfortunately, I can no longer walk any major distance so I thought this was a good way to help.”

Liz said this was just the first in a long list of charity efforts by caring Perthshire residents this summer.

“We in Kenmore will carry on raising money for the charity over summer. I have approached holiday accommodation owners in the hope of getting a short break from them to auction for the charity. We would be really grateful if anyone would consider ‘loaning’ it to us for a week or so,” said Liz, who can be reached on 07734 200945.
